Comparisons

WISMO alternatives, compared honestly

Short answer: most tools sellers compare WISMO against are not competitors. They solve a different problem well and have no customer-facing tracking page. Below is each one, what it is genuinely better at, and the post arguing the case in full.

The short version

The one thing none of these does is let your customer check their own order without messaging you. Almost everything else, at least one of them does better than WISMO.

Tool What it's built for Customer tracking page Full comparison
WISMO Orders that arrive as conversations Yes — a link per order
Google Sheets Storing anything, flexibly No — No way to show one customer one order Read
Notion One workspace for everything internal No — Sharing a page is not a branded tracking page Read
Airtable Structured data and teams No — A shared view exposes the whole table Read
Shopify A catalogue, cart and checkout No — Assumes customers buy without talking to you Read
Stocksmith (Craftybase) Materials and true cost per unit No — Faces inward — no customer-facing page Read
Invoicing apps Billing, tax and what you are owed No — An invoice has no field for "in progress" Read

Where each one beats WISMO

WISMO is narrow on purpose. These are the cases where it is the wrong answer and one of the tools below is the right one.

Where WISMO is the right answer

One case, and it is a narrow one: your orders arrive as conversations. A customer messages you on Instagram or WhatsApp, you agree on what you are making and when it will be ready, and from that moment until delivery they have no way of checking on it except asking you again.

Every tool above can record that order. None of them can show it to the one person who wants to see it. That is the whole difference, and if it is not a problem you have, none of this is worth switching for.

Across the 93 orders whose tracking page was opened at least once — 24 sellers, out of 226 orders from 33 sellers between March and August 2026 — customers opened that link a median of 7 times before the order finished. The methodology and limits are published in full.

Common questions

What are the main alternatives to WISMO?
The tools sellers most often weigh against WISMO are Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Shopify, Stocksmith (formerly Craftybase), and invoicing apps such as Vyapar or Zoho Invoice. Most are not direct competitors — they solve a different problem well and simply have no customer-facing order tracking page.
When should I use something other than WISMO?
Use Shopify if customers should be able to buy without messaging you first. Use Stocksmith or Craftybase if your hard question is what a unit costs to make. Use an invoicing or accounting app if you need compliant tax invoices. Use Airtable if several people edit the same data. WISMO is narrow on purpose and is the wrong tool for all four.
Is WISMO a replacement for Shopify?
No. WISMO has no storefront, no catalogue, no cart and no checkout, and does not process payments. It is for sellers whose orders arrive as conversations — Instagram DMs, WhatsApp messages, word of mouth — rather than through a checkout.
Can I use WISMO alongside another tool?
Yes, and many sellers do. A common pairing is an invoicing or accounting app for the books plus WISMO for order status and the customer-facing tracking link. WISMO does not import from or sync with other tools, so anything shared between them is entered in both.
What does WISMO do that spreadsheets and Notion do not?
It gives each order its own link you can send to that one customer. A spreadsheet or Notion page can be shared, but sharing it exposes the whole document rather than one row, which is why sellers using them end up answering "where is my order?" by hand anyway.
